Inner support: how to stop seeking validation outside

You ask several people for their opinion before making a decision. You analyse a message for a long time before sending it. You only feel relief when someone praises you or confirms you did the right thing. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone.

Where does this need come from?

The need for acceptance is natural: as humans we are made to belong. The problem begins when it becomes the only source of self-worth. If, as children, love and attention depended on whether we were “good” or “the best”, it is easy to learn that safety comes from outside.

What is inner support?

It is the inner sense that you can rely on yourself. That even if someone disagrees, you make a mistake or you are misunderstood, you will still be okay with yourself. Inner support does not mean you stop listening to others. It means their opinion no longer decides your worth.

How to build it

  • Ask yourself first. Before asking someone for advice, write down what you yourself think and feel about it.
  • Make small decisions without consulting anyone. Choosing a restaurant, a dress, plans for the weekend. It is training in self-trust.
  • Come back to your body. Safety is also physiological. A calm breath, feet firmly on the ground, a hand on your chest: simple signals to the nervous system that you are safe.
  • Appreciate yourself out loud. Every evening, write down one thing you did well for yourself.
You become a safe place for yourself when you stop waiting for someone else to be that for you.

This is exactly what I built the “Rooted in Yourself” program around: so that you find inside the support you have been looking for outside.
